Gutenberg Hub launches an online page builder app based on WordPress patterns

The power of patterns has been on my mind for what seems like forever now. A new idea surprises me just as I’m beginning to wonder what this feature might look like in the future. Munir Kamal has a knack for coming up with these ideas.

In his post earlier this week, he mentioned that he would share a “little” WordPress patterns library-tie application. He published the application today on Gutenberg Hub.

It is still a concept app, but the current online version works. Users can build entire pages using this interface by piecing patterns together. The content cannot be directly edited, unlike the block editor itself. It is also possible to copy the block code, paste it into the WordPress editor, and mix and match patterns.

The first time they visit the Builder sub-site on Gutenberg Hub, a blank canvas will appear along with a list of core pattern categories. It is easy to add a new pattern by selecting a category, finding the pattern you prefer, and clicking the pattern:
